How to lift your anxiety and depression

When you suffer from anxiety or depression you may find that you just don't have the energy to do even the simplest of things. Life becomes exhausting and can find that you have no motivation to do anything. Many clients with 'low mood' also experience some of the following symptoms:

  • Continuous sadness

  • Feeling hopeless, helpless and worthless

  • Low self-esteem

  • Low confidence

  • Feeling tearful

  • Feeling guilty

  • Being irritable and intolerant of others

  • Have no motivation or interest in things you previously enjoyed

  • Find it difficult to make decisions

  • Feel anxious or worried

  • Changes in appetite and lack of energy

  • Insomnia or frequently waking up in the night

If you are depressed, everything seems negative – it is difficult to see anything positive in your life. Brain fog really gets in the way, and feels relentless.

We need to understand depression before we work towards lifting it. It is a myth that depression and anxiety are caused by difficult life situations -if this were true, everyone in certain life situations (e.g loss of a loved one) would suffer from depression and anxiety and we know this isn't the case. So, it has to be our thought patterns surrounding the events that create the anxiety and depression.

We can change our thoughts, feelings and emotions using hypnosis. We can also help ourselves. For instance, we can do the following:

Set goals – What is it that you want? Work towards these in small baby steps.

Scale how you feel – How happy are you on a scale of 0 to 10?

Separate yourself from the problem – you aren't the problem

Remind yourself of your resources and successes – all of us are valuable assets in our own right!

Laugh – simple but true. Laughing produces feel good hormones

Uncouple unhelpful pattern matches – hypnosis can help you with this

Accentuate the realistic positives

Use your imagination to visualise success

Take control and look for solutions

Depression is a signal that a person's needs aren't being met, yet it's difficult once in the depression cycle to see how you can work towards meeting those needs.

This is where Peter of The Peterson Practice excels. If you don't know why you suffer from depression, the patterns that keep you in the depressive cycle or what you can do about it, Peter has extensive experience and can help you with all of these. He can help you meet your needs and set realistic goals so that you work towards relieving your depression quickly and effectively whilst also utilising the power of hypnosis.
